Flyways for the ducks, highways for the people who hunt them.
There’s no more joyous a reunion than an autumn meeting between the duck hunter and the duck. The great migration has endured generations of both duck and hunter, enrapturing the men and women who wait earnestly in the cold and wet for a chance to greet their quarry at some point along their journey southward. Here at The Flyways & Highways Collective, our mission is simple: Document the world of waterfowling through the eyes of the men and women who hunt them, who study them, and who cherish their return every fall.
So welcome, duck hunters, conservationists, researchers and bird lovers. You’re among friends here at The F&H Collective.
No stranger to the waterways that run through the southwestern portion of Louisiana, Aaron Head’s fueled an urge to make his duck season a 12-month excursion. In the winter you’ll find him in a clump of roseau cane waiting on another pass of shovelers, while he turns his attention to banding blue-winged teal and black-bellied whistling ducks in the spring. A pharmacist by trade, he resides in Lafayette, La with his wife, fellow pharmacist and hunting partner Chelsie.

A former journalist for more than a decade, Ryne Berthelot’s seen plenty of leaky waders, one-duck days, and inappropriate jokes in his 17 seasons of duck hunting. You’ll find him at your local gas station, loading up on cheese whiz, energy drinks and scratch-offs before making his way to wherever the ducks are. He lives in Baton Rouge, La.
